When did Athletes who Twitter become such circus? In the course of two weeks we’ve had two “Bird Brains” go totally wacko while “tweeting”. First, Rashard Mendenhall blabs some nonsense about bin Laden causing a big furor and then Reggie Bush tweets about how great the lockout is for his “vacation time” which has Saints fans in an uproar. What part about having thousands of followers reading your every word don’t these bozos understand? And don’t they know that journalists are among those reading their updates for story ideas? Maybe they shouldn’t be but they are. How many of us have John Elway on our twitter feeds?

You have any thoughts about this topic. Do you “tweet”? If so do you worry about what you say and how you say it? Clearly it’s a problem for both college and pro athletes as well as franchises and universities. How to solve it is the million dollar question.

I’ve weighed in on the Reggie Bush-Heisman trophy controversy with a pair of cartoons. The first one deals with how I think that winning the Heisman will never be the same. It will come with unbelievable scrutiny. And I’ll say this; Reggie Bush is the first guy to forfeit his Heisman. Don’t ya think O.J. is long overdue on that.

The second cartoon on the subject can be found here on ESPN.com. I think it’s ridiculous that the kid gets all the blame and pays the ultimate price while the administration at USC gets off totally free. Yeah, the school got nailed with NCAA penalties, how about the guys who were actually in charge during the whole mess. Why aren’t their feet held to the fire?

Here’s to the Saints
NFL’s doormat no longer. This one goes out to all of the brave and courageous people of New Orleans, who have faced more adversity than any of us will ever know. It has bee a long time coming. Enjoy the journey, it’s long overdue.

A Secret
I guess it’s finally safe to come out of the closet. I was the only kid in West Texas to wear a New Orleans Saints jacket to school. This was in the heart of Dallas Cowboys country but I chose to root for the Saints and a young quarterback named Archie Manning. The Saints of course just got the crap beat of them game after game, and as I recall, so did I. Not a bright move wearing the Saints Logo on my sleeve. I eventually relented (after much violent coercion) and converted to the Cowboys. Soon I was the only kid in West Texas to cheer for Craig Morton over Roger Staubach. Bet you can guess how that went over. So yesterday I sat proudly wearing my New Orleans Saints hat as they marched into their very first Super Bowl. In the comfort of my own living room, thank you very much.

A Hoax?
OK. I know we’ve had it up to here with all of the Balloon Boy story. But I just had to get this one out of my system. Two surprise teams lead the NFL. The Saints are very much for real and the Broncos seem to be as well. A Saints- Broncos Super Bowl. Well, let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves.
