Today’s View From the Bull Pen
St Patty's Day
To celebrate the return of Patrick Roy, I thought I'd post my three favorite and most requested Roy cartoons from my days at the Rocky Mountain News. I'm excited he's back and I know you guys are too. So here's to St Patty. I'll raise a pint o' Guinness to that!
Have a great a safe memorial day weekend! As always, your readership and your comments help to make the world go round, so please continue to add them. I will try to do a better job of responding.
There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.

And When the Saints Go Marching In…

Here’s to the Saints
NFL’s doormat no longer. This one goes out to all of the brave and courageous people of New Orleans, who have faced more adversity than any of us will ever know. It has bee a long time coming. Enjoy the journey, it’s long overdue.A Secret
I guess it’s finally safe to come out of the closet. I was the only kid in West Texas to wear a New Orleans Saints jacket to school. This was in the heart of Dallas Cowboys country but I chose to root for the Saints and a young quarterback named Archie Manning. The Saints of course just got the crap beat of them game after game, and as I recall, so did I. Not a bright move wearing the Saints Logo on my sleeve. I eventually relented (after much violent coercion) and converted to the Cowboys. Soon I was the only kid in West Texas to cheer for Craig Morton over Roger Staubach. Bet you can guess how that went over. So yesterday I sat proudly wearing my New Orleans Saints hat as they marched into their very first Super Bowl. In the comfort of my own living room, thank you very much. -
New Kid, Same Old Story

Flashback
Sorry but I just couldn’t resist re-working this old Shanahan cartoon. It says just as much now, with McDaniels as it did then with the Mastermind. You can’t run the team by yourself. When will they learn? -
To Cheat or Not to Cheat: that is the question…

Cheating and its consequences.
People through the years have asked where I learned to draw. My answer has always been honest, yet embarrassingly so. I learned to draw in algebra class. I’m proud to say, however, while I actually scored single figures on several tests (or pretty darned close to it), I never once cheated.
I love doing these cartoons about how sports effect us in our everyday lives. One of the things I enjoy most about sports are the important lessons we can learn from them. Teamwork. Hard work. Hustle. Persistence. Patience. Honor. Integrity. Rising above Adversity and defeat.
Yet these days, it bothers me a great deal the lessons that are being passed on to our children from people like Mark McGwire, Tiger Woods, Terrell Owens, Michael Vick and Brandon Marshall. And, yes, us. Fans who root for people like this regardless of their conduct and what it means. I feel as though we are not only losing some moral ground here, but skiing right off of it into a perilous abyss. -
Bears staff changes and a Drew Posting change(for a few weeks)

Da Bears
The Bears coaching staff went through some serious makeover work last week in this cartoon I did for the Chicago Tribune. It’s quite a mess that Mr. Cutler has gotten himself into.
A Cartoon Posting change for a few weeks
I’m going to change my posting schedule here for just a few weeks . I’ve been posting here 5 days a week since leaving the Rocky last February. For the next few weeks I’m going to post just M-W-F. Don’t worry. This isn’t a permanent change. I just want a chance to work on a web comic I’m playing with as well as some other concepts for the coming year and to do some marketing for my creative business Littoonz Studios without the daily deadline of sports cartoons. I’m asking all of you, please, to bear with me for a few weeks, to keep supporting the site by coming back daily or every other day at least. And I ask all of you as well, to tell a friend or two about the cartoons here and encourage them to give the site a try. The more the merrier.
I’m also asking you to take part in the poll questions below to help me evaluate the site and to bring you more of the content you want to read. Thanks everybody!!

Shanahan Crosses the Delaware
And the winner was…
You all picked Shanahan Crosses the Delaware, which, by the way was my favorite too. Here it is in living color. Thanks for voting everyone. This was fun. I think we’ll do it again sometime. And you can see the Virginian-Pilot cartoon below since it wasn’t on their site
And Here’s the one from the Pilot

Pick Which Shanahan cartoon you Want Drawn.
And now for something completely different.
OK. Here’s the deal. I got a call from Colleen McDaniel, the sports editor at the Virginian-Pilot to do a Mike Shanahan cartoon. I used to work with Colleen at the Rocky before she moved on to greener pastures. So I did 4 roughs and Colleen picked one which I drew and colorized for this mornings paper. You can see it HERE if you want.
So it left me with three unused roughs which just seemed like a shame, sooo…I thought it would be fun to post them here and let you choose. Here are the cartoons. Below is a poll for you to pick which one I’ll ink and color for Fridays blog. So with out further ado, start picking…

NBA Lockers of today…

Lawyers, guns and moneyI’ve been meaning to get around to this topic for days now. Scary that this is really what it’s come to. Pulling a gun on a teammate in the locker room. Don’t you wish we could wander back to the days of Wooden. I know I do.
