Cartoon drawn for 9News KUSA TV Denver

Dispatches From the Drawing Board:

  • Nothing quite like signing a Hall of Fame quarterback to get the week started.
  • Good stuff for a cartoonist.
  • It should be great stuff for Broncos fans, but I get the feeling a lot of people don’t like adding Peyton Manning to the Broncos roster. Or more they don’t like the idea that Tim Tebow is about to be subtracted from it.
  • The difference in the two quarterbacks is pretty complex. One can throw, read defenses and run a complex NFL offense from the line of scrimmage. The other one can’t.
  • I like Tebow immensely. I like everything about him. But Peyton Manning he’s not.
  • Manning gets you closer to the Lombardi trophy. Tebow gets you closer to the Heisman trophy. That’s the difference.
  • I know I did a cartoon recently about Manning quitting while he’s still ahead. Here’s the link for it. That said, I’m not a doctor, so I kind of take it all back.
  • Though I wouldn’t mind a doctors salary. Speaking of salaries, Peyton reportedly will sign for $95 million over 5 years. That isn’t too bad. Certainly not numbers cartoonists are used to seeing.
  • Unless you were Charles Schulz, who made roughly $60 million a year in his prime.
  • Yeah, you read that right.
  • I can’t remember ever drawing three different cartoons on the same subject in the same day. Can I take the rest of the week off?
  • Naw. THIS is too much fun.
  • So what do ya do with Tebow? Trade him? To who, for what? Not a big market for running quarterbacks in the NFL.
  • I wonder if Josh McDaniels wants him? I know. Bad joke.
  • I say they give Tim his very own Tebow jersey concession kiosk in the South Stands. I mean someone needs to help subsidize Peyton’s $95 million contract.
  • Got any better ideas. Well, let’s hear ‘em!

Dispatches from the Drawing Board:

  • Admittedly, this might not be too popular with the Tebow fans in the world. But if the Broncos sign Peyton Manning ( and that’s a very BIG IF) I’m afraid this is all we will see of Tim Tebow for awhile.
  • I’m amazed at the response this has gotten on facebook already. So many Broncos fans have become such rabid Tebow fans that even the slightest bit of criticism thrown his way is viewed as heresy.
  • I like Tebow as much as the next guy, but if (another BIG IF) Manning is healthy and can play, I’m sorry, but I’m going to go for Manning. He’s just one of the all-time greats. And I haven’t been a big fan of his. But the guy can flat out play.
  • He makes you automatically a playoff/future Super Bowl contender
  • That said, none of this is likely to happen
  • He played indoors
  • He wants it very toasty warm.
  • I’ll be drawing The Buffs for the Boulder daily Camera’s Sunday morning edition. Go Buffs. I’d love to see them go dancin’!

Dispatches From the Drawing Board

  • Peyton being unceremoniously dumped is a metaphor of all that is wrong with pro football.
  • I mean he didn’t even get a gold watch on his way out the door.
  • That said, he really should retire, while he still can. After all, your health is everything.
  • Unless, of course you happen to be a cartoonist. Here’s a story I’m pondering about my friend, Tony Auth
  • How many cartoonists does it take to make people laugh.
  • None. They all lost their jobs.

As the BountyGate scandal story continues to dominate the nation’s sports I thought his would be a great chance to show you different takes on the same topic. The cartoon below was drawn for Universal Press syndicate and went out nationally a little while ago.

This black and white cartoon was an “outtake” from a batch I sent the Chicago Tribune on Friday afternoon. I liked the premise and in hindsight it might have been a better image than the one I posted earlier this morning and that was published in Saturday’s Tribune. I kept it in it’s pre-color form since it didn’t publish.

Today’s View From the Bull Pen

The World is in Chaos, The Economy is in the Dumpster...And Peyton Manning throws a Pass. Nice to know we have it all in perspective.

There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen (that I've found yet) so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.
