Today’s View From the Bull Pen
Wasted Time
Growing up in the late 60's and early 70's, I was a huge NBA fan. From Wilt the Stilt to Jerry West to Nate Archibald to my personal favorite, Pete Maravich, I loved the game and watched it as often as I could. Somewhere along the way, sometime after Magic and Bird, I lost that loving feeling, and, unless I just have to watch it for work purposes, I avoid The NBA at all costs.
This cartoon is as clear a comment about those feelings as I can make in less than 100 words. Inspired by the Eagles song "Wasted Time" which I recently heard while watching the History of the Eagles DVD, I think it is my definitive statement about how I really feel about the NBA. It all seems like a colossal waste of time. Don't you agree?As always, your readership and your comments help to make the world go round, so please continue to add them. We all have choices. With one wrong decision our lives can change in an instant. The lives of those around us can be altered in a heartbeat. Get behind the wheel of a car after too many drinks. Carry a handgun. Take your eyes off the road to text or change the dial on the CD player. One instant, and everything is over.
These kinds of cartoons are hard for me to draw. Not everything I do is intended to be funny. But when the topic turns serious I feel it is my calling in life to point out the teachable moment in it all. I’m sad for Plaxico Burress. I’m sadder for his little girl, without her father for two years. Nobody wins. Nobody. -

I recently started this great partnership with Mile High Sports Magazine. I have a cartoon in this months issue now on the stands and another cartoon coming up in October. I’m scheduled to do one full page cartoon a month for them at least until the end of the year. I thought I’d put this teaser out so you could see the first one, but , trust me, it looks even better in print.If you’re looking for a great Christmas gift idea for that special Broncos fan in your life early the new book by Jim Saccomano called Denver Broncos: The Complete Illustrated History.

Broncos Bruise Browns
Shannon’s Lasting ImpressionTalk about your great moments in Broncos History. I don’t think any of us will ever forget Shannon Sharpe’s great leap of faith into the Ring of Fame with a parachute. It was Shannon at his best, always over the top always memorable. It set the stage for the whole day really, and this Broncos team is really starting to show some signs of coming together. My favorite part of the day….Brandon Marshall being benched in the 2nd quarter because, well, he was playing like he could care less. It was a statement that came through loud and clear. If guys like Elvis Dumervil can play their hearts out there is simply no room on the roster for those who don’t. In any case the Broncos are getting off to a good fast start, which is necessary, since the schedule gets tougher every week. Knowshon Moreno is about to break out as the Broncos big back and the deffense is laying like the Orange crush of old. Let me know what you think.

I've started my Cartooning 101 articles now on the Creator's Incubator. For years I have had students come to me asking how to become a cartoonist. So I've decided to finally put some thoughts down about my calling in life. It will take me awhile to complete as I will most likely do a chapter at a time. But the introduction should give you a good idea on what it's all about. I hope you'll join me along the way and pass the word to anybody who wants to become a cartoonist. I think they'll find some good insight. BTW this project is aimed at an audience a little older than 6th grade. Serena Williams: Making Noise
Noise. Somewhere in the last few weeks we have become a loud, insensitive bunch of loons. From Sarena Williams to Kanye West to Joe Wilson (don’t get me started about that one) we’ve grown rude and disrespectful. I’d love to see the whole world follow one rule. K.I.S.S. Keep it Shut Stupid.

The Luck o’ the Broncos
A Photo Finish
Wow, what a finish. We’ll remember the Brandon Stokley Immaculate Deflection for generations to come. And it was made just that much sweeter watching Jay Cutler throw 4 interceptions on Sunday night. What did you guys think? Oh, and by the way 9News started using my cartoons after every game at 10! I’m excited about that. ESPN broke this story yesterday that Shanahan had planned to cut Brandon Marshall right before Shanahan himself was fired. That leads us to today’s poll question.
