Groundhog day
One of my favorite days of the year! Old Punxsutawney Phil pops up to see just whose shadow he sees. These days it could totally be anybodies. I narrowed it to Bud Selig, Tiger Woods, and Josh McDaniels. I finally settled on Selig. He’s so much fun to draw.

To Cheat or Not to Cheat: that is the question…

standingO

Cheating and its consequences.
People through the years have asked where I learned to draw. My answer has always been honest, yet embarrassingly so. I learned to draw in algebra class. I’m proud to say, however, while I actually scored single figures on several tests (or pretty darned close to it), I never once cheated.
I love doing these cartoons about how sports effect us in our everyday lives. One of the things I enjoy most about sports are the important lessons we can learn from them. Teamwork. Hard work. Hustle. Persistence. Patience. Honor. Integrity. Rising above Adversity and defeat.
Yet these days, it bothers me a great deal the lessons that are being passed on to our children from people like Mark McGwire, Tiger Woods, Terrell Owens, Michael Vick and Brandon Marshall. And, yes, us. Fans who root for people like this regardless of their conduct and what it means. I feel as though we are not only losing some moral ground here, but skiing right off of it into a perilous abyss.

Mark the Liar McGwire

Repulsive
My one word that sums up Mark McGwire and the entire era of steroids in baseball. I felt like this needed a stark strong statement kind of cartoon. But, frankly, I really tired of drawing them. Can’t baseball just have a come-out-of-the-closet day and get it over with already. Hmmm. Sounds like a cartoon idea. I’m really interested to hear your feedback on this topic. So jump right in.
Oh but before you do…Thanks to everyone who took time to answer my recent poll. I know it was long but it helps me to see ways to improve the site.

Boston’s Baked Beans

Big Papi Is in Big Trouble
Hard to fathom all of the stories out of Boston these days. Let’s just say this… They seem to be having a lot more than just Tea Parties.

Great Caption Response
Keep up the great entries for the caption contest. We might shatter the record for most entries and that would be way cool. Also, if you haven’t received your prizes yet I’m sorry. I’ve been away the last two weeks and will do the rest of the mailings today.

Question of The Day?
Should the MLBPA just up and release all of the names who have tested positive for steroids or should they continue to protect their players and let us endure the endless steroids stories day after day?

Roids Rage

Question: Are you as tired of the constant focus on steroids in baseball as I am? If I don’t draw another cartoon about it all, I’m more than fine. Admittedly I am conflicted. It makes for good cartoon material. On the other hand I relate to the guy in the chair in this cartoon. Do you feel the same way? Let me know by offering your comments.

Reinvent Event
I attended Andrew Hudson’s Reinvent Event yesterday. It was kind of a Networking program. I’ll be telling you more about it soon here on the blog. Stay tooned.

The newest baseball stat…CHDS percentage

litt090408

CHDS…baseball’s hottest stat
It’s time for baseball to update the record books. Not just the asterisks involved but the newest and hottest stat in all of baseball…CHDS percentage. My guess is the numbers would be quit high. Maybe I ought to talk to my friends at the Society of Baseball Research (SABR ) to see if they could get the stat added. It’s long overdue don’t you think?

9News Animation planned.
I’m working on a little something for Opening Day so stay tooned to www.drewlitton.com and 9News for an update. Some of you have had some questions about my future. I’m trying to take it day by day, and live in the now. Please know I’m committed to everyone who stops by drewlitton.com that I want to make this blog One of the the best and funnest experiences on the web. I’ll let you know as I progress any latest updates, particularly those who have asked about inDenverTimes.com. Right now the group is working hard on marketing and getting the site ready to launch. I don’t expect to know anything until April 23, which is the deadline for subscriptions.

Question of the day!
Does it bother you that the game of Baseball has been so tainted by steroids or are you willing to forgive and forget and just get on with the show?

Barry Bonds Bye-Bye

drew-bonds-drugs-cartoon-copy

Barry Bonds has been a frequent topic for me through the years. This cartoon inspired by a famous photo featuring Babe Ruth is one of my favorite images. I think it about summed up the Bonds fiasco with no words, just letting the picture do all the talking. Maybe even a thousand words worth.
