The Pigskin Plot
With the Broncos playing tonight it always leaves a bit of a void on Sunday. What’s a person to do? You know you are programmed to watch football on every Sunday during the fall, but then the NFL has to throw in the bye weeks and the occasional Monday night, or Sunday night or Thursday night wrench into the whole thing. Just give us some football. Every week. 52 weeks a year. Is that really asking too much?

Don’t get Defensive
The Broncos didn’t. I don’t like Bye weeks in the NFL for multiple reasons. It leaves NFL fans totally lost for the weekend their favorite team is off and it can disrupt the routine of players and coaches. I don’t think the layoff helped the Broncos, but really, it was the Ravens defense that beat the Broncos yesterday. That and the intensity of a desperate team. So, over all, I wouldn’t hit the panic button yet. Next week will be the real test against Pittsburgh. If they can bounce back and beat the Steelers we’ll forget that the Ravens defense even existed. Kyle Orton, not so much.
My kind of town…
Starting this Saturday, October 31, I will be debuting a new weekly feature in the sports pages of The Chicago Tribune. The cartoon called “The Main Event” will be all about the Chicago sports scene. I’m more than excited to launch this new feature in such a terrific and award winning newspaper as the Tribune. I have long maintained that a sports cartoon, done on a local level, has a great chance to really connect with readers. It’s what I prided myself on while at the Rocky Mountain News. I encourage you all to bookmark the Tribune’s site and I’ll give you a more definitive url when it launches Saturday. I’ll also post the cartoon here every week sometime during the weekend, but still encourage you to visit the Tribs site as well. After all, don’t you just miss Jay Cutler that much. My daily cartoons on here won’t change. You’ll just get an extra Chicago related toon thrown in. Cool, huh.

And on to nAvember…
There’s nothing more that can be said about the start the Avalanche have had so far this season. They set a franchise record last night for the number of wins in October. So this cartoon was a natural. I’m hoping the Avs can keep it up. I love drawing hockey.
Stay safe out there. The snow that Colorado is enjoying is a bit slippery you know.

It’s the visuals
That’s always a key component when I’m brainstorming ideas. The less words the better. Especially when describing something as utterly ugly as this seasons Washington Redskins. Putrid is really too kind of a word for them. I keep hoping the NFL will lock them up with the Oakland Raiders in a Texas Cage Death Match and then throw away the key. We could be so lucky.
