Today’s View From the Bull Pen
Priorities
We have them all wrong. From constant news coverage of Jodi Arias and OJ Simpson to athletes getting mega bucks for playing a game, our sense of what is important is completely and totally screwed up. You'd think that we might have learned something from the recent events in Boston. That heroes emerge from even the most difficult of circumstances, but, no, we return to the inane and inconsequential. Amanda Knox. Film at 11.I drew this cartoon after reading the recent story about Andrew Wiggins, supposedly the "next" LeBron James, signing a letter of intent with Kansas. While Wiggins did his best to keep his signing from becoming too much of a circus, it still carried huge weight in the 24/7 news cycle. It made me think of the number of brilliant kids who will walk across graduation stages all over our country in the next few weeks, whose names are only heard as they stride forward to get their diplomas. No newspaper columns are written or press conferences held for valedictorians or honor students, but, hey, dribble a basketball and we hear all about it. Priorities. Yeah. I'd say we have them pretty screwed up.
As always, your readership and your comments help to make the world go round, so please continue to add them. I will try to do a better job of responding.
There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.

Tiger Woods vs. Jack Nicklaus: My Take
This latest cartoon isn’t likely to be unanimously popular. But I have my opinions you know. For years I lauded Tiger Woods as the second coming of Bobby Jones and…

A Spittin’ Image

Tiger Woods had a rough weekend. He shot a final round 75 to end his chances of his first tournament win since “The Scandal” and then he makes it all worse but spitting on the green, getting caught for it and being fined for the whole thing. He hasn’t exactly gotten things “under control” since “The Scandal”, throwing clubs and tantrums on a pretty consistent basis.
The one edge Woods once had over his opponents on the tour was the ability to focus and stay mentally tough trough 72 holes. Those days seem to be behind him. -
Paradise

Now this is my idea of a blissful weekend. No LeBron, No Tiger, No vuvuzelas and no more baseball on steroids. Just give me a grill, a cooler, and my annual football preview magazines and I’m one happy camper. Oh. And earplugs for the fireworks across the street.
I’ll be drawing for the Tribune on Saturday so stay tooned. In the meantime have a Happy and safe 4th of July weekend!

Sports Coverage

Sports Coverage
This cartoon I think pretty well sums up the state of sports these days. You can’t turn on the TV, surf the internet or buy a paper without Sex Scandals all over the sports section. I’m not quite sure where everything spun out of control but suffice to say, sports will never be the same.A Few New Items
I’ve started another blog all about comics and cartooning and my life as a cartoonist called Tales from the Looney Pen. There’s a widget in the sidebar. Please check it out. It may not be your cup of tea but I’d love to see all of you join me for some fun over there as well as here. And in the menu bar at the top of the page you’ll notice DrewTube (I know, I know, it’s corny) which will be a place to see the all of the Webcast archives. I’m aiming for my first webcast this Friday May 14th. Oh, and there should be a cartoon on Friday as well. It will be a busy week. I’m working on a cool assignment for the June issue of Mile High Sports magazine!
