You know the economy is bad when…
All of us by now are just a wee bit tired of bad economic news. How bad is it? Well, that’s where this idea came from. These are my favorite kinds of sports cartoons to do, ones that a large segment of people can relate to. Hopefully they go where every cartoonist dreams a good cartoon will go…the refrigerator, the office cubicle or break room or taped to someones cash register or the wall behind a deli. I once had some routine blood work done at one of those diagnostics places. When I sat down I faced an entire wall of my cartoon clippings. It was strange, to say the least, but it did make me feel like I was in good hands.

Rocky Fever
Not to confused with the swine flu, it seems as thought the Rockies recent winning streak has sparked new enthusiasm for some fans. So, have you turned on the switch yet or do you favor a more conservative approach, like, say after they win the division?
By the way there are two really great Rockies websites that you should know about if you don’t already. Former Rocky Mountain News baseball experts Tracy Ringolsby and Jack Etkin are hammering out home run coverage at http://www.insidetherockies.com and Purple Row a terrific blog that can’t be beat.
Don’t forget to check out my other cartoons at www.9news.com

Clint Was Class
If you’re looking for the real reason Clint Hurdle lost his job, this cartoon, an old one from my days at the Rocky, pretty much spells it out. Sure , we can blame the Monfort’s (as I’ve been known to do more than a few times) but looking at the wrecking ball of this current economy, I think I’ll not point the finger today. Sure, The Monforts can’t compete with the likes of the Yankees or Red Sox but, really, who can? Until baseball puts in a salary cap to even the playing field, great guys like Clint Hurdle get pushed out the door. Here’s my wish. That Hurdle inks a deal with one of the teams with deep pockets. And then wins a World Series or two. Good luck Skipper. There was none finer.

Time again for this week’s Cartoon Caption Contest.
Da Rules: Be Original and Keep it clean
Da Prizes: The winner gets the original cartoon with their caption in it and a vintage full-color autographed Rockies poster drawn by yours truly. The art ran on the front page of the Rocky Mountain News on Opening day 1993!
Our two runner-ups will each get the same autographed vintage Rockies poster drawn by me.
So go to it, and have some fun out there!
This is the first new cartoon drawn for this site, and it also appears at InsidetheRockies.com, a blog from Rocky Mountain News baseball writers Tracy Ringolsby and Jack Etkin. To stay in touch with other former Rocky staffers, visit IwantmyRocky.com.
