   Are you back from New Orleans?

   Love that HS sports. Football is the best.

   Those kids out there play seemingly for the love of the game. Most of the kids will not get even a sniff at the D-1 fun. Even in the lower divisions the game becomes a job. In HS,you play for your school, your girl, your friends and your parents. You may not have the most talent but in your heart you are making memories that will last a lifetime for all involved.

   Great cartoon,Drew. Oh but if it were true. OH wait in Omaha, we don’t have a pro team so HS sports and stories get a good share of the air time during sports.

2. Gene, very well said, as always! In Texas, where I grew up, high school football was everything. Huge coverage in the papers and on the air. The school I went to actually sold out the Sun Bowl for several playoff games. Here in Colorado, I don’t think it gets its just due.

3. Drew, I think it is, in part, the market. I just moved to Grand Junction (from the Metro Area) and I’ve found that every local sports cast begins with regional high school sports stories. It’s pretty refreshing.

   Keep up the good work Drew, I love that I can keep getting your cartoons.

4. I grew up in Grand Junction and I remember exactly what Jake is saying.

   Local sports are huge there.

   One reason could be because the nearest pro team is 4 hours away, so the local high school and college games get a pretty good turnout without a lot of competition (I went to every Mavs football game growing up).

   Some of the players are celebrities to the young kids who look up to them…

   I’ve seen a few local athletes happily signing autographs for groups of awe-struck elementary students over the years.

   I now live in Boulder county and the young athletes here are mostly ignored except a brief mention when they sign to play with a college.
